Before the Cart earns money through affiliate commissions. This page explains exactly how that works, in plain language, as required by the United States Federal Trade Commission.

What an affiliate link is

Some links on this site are affiliate links. When you click one and then buy something, the seller pays us a percentage of that sale. You pay the same price you would have paid if you had gone to the seller directly. The commission comes out of the seller's margin, not out of your pocket.

Not every link here is an affiliate link. Links to sources, studies, documentation and competitors usually are not.

Where you will see this told to you

• At the top of every page on this site, above the content, before any link.
• Next to the link itself, wherever a link that pays us appears inside a review.
• On this page, in full.

We do not consider it disclosed if it is only in the footer, only in the terms, or printed in a colour designed not to be read.

What the commission does not change

• It does not change the price you pay. Ever.
• It does not decide rankings or scores. A product that pays more does not move up.
• It does not stop us saying no. Reviews that conclude you should not buy are published the same as any other.
• It does not buy coverage. No company can pay to be reviewed here, to be reviewed favourably, or to have a review removed.

Categories we refuse

Regardless of what it pays, this site does not carry affiliate links for anything that claims to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent a medical condition. That includes supplements, weight loss products and health devices. We also do not carry gambling, and we do not carry offers whose marketing depends on invented scarcity or fake countdowns.
